The Grimes Reading Institute of Rockport, Massachusetts, is a consultation firm focused on early childhood education courses with literacy programs that build language and literacy skills. Our mission, since our inception in 1996, is to support school administrators, teachers, parents, government agencies, and professionals and para-professionals with effective assessment driven instruction for students from pre-K to third grade.
Our focus is on professional development in reading and related areas, and consultation and planning for educators and government agencies, as well as supporting public awareness projects. We strive to help formulate effective classroom practices that are in line with the latest research.
Our scope varies depending on the audience, from a pre-school emphasis on oral language development, to teacher candidates in higher education. Our emphasis is placed on at-risk students and struggling readers. We also offer graduate credit for several courses.
Under the direction of founder Sally Grimes, Ed.M., we serve educators primarily in New England, as well as nationwide in providing workshops, courses, and year-round consultations. Under her direction, we provide language and literacy resources for education professionals, families, and candidates for reading licensure. Our programs are available both on and off site, including prep courses for the Massachusetts Reading Licensure Examinations.
